On Sunday 26th. November the Mail Box at Salvage Turn in Birmingham was full to capacity as boats from all over the BCN and surrounding waterways congregated to blockade the canal.
The blockade was in protest at the cut in funding to British Waterways www.britishwaterways.co.uk by DEFRA www.defra.gov.uk for this year and future years.
The Blockade at the Mail Box outside the BBC studio was timed to coincide with the BBC Politics Show, www.bbc.co.uk , broadcast from the Mail Box Studio at midday on Sunday.
Upwards of fifty boats completely blocked the Worcester Birmingham Canal at Salvage Turn, the corner in the canal at the Mail Box.
During the one hour protest blockade John Fletcher National Chairman of IWA www.waterways.org.uk and Lord Rooker MP of Perry Bar and DEFRA Minister were interviewed outside on the walkway for the Politics Show.
This protest was organised by the Local IWA with IWA banners, coordinated by the Save Our Waterways group www.saveourwaterways.co.uk , with Save Our Waterways and AWCC www.awcc.org.uk banners also prominent.
