Regretfully another AWCC North West and National stalwart has died. Terry Tomlinson became National Quartermaster in the 1980s when we had bills for £15 and £12 in the kitty. Through Terry’s drive we had various fund raising events and are here today because of his efforts.
Terry led some adventures. As Commodore of Sale C.C. the Club crossed the weir at Chester and went up the Dee. Easter cruises would see SCC boats on the River Douglas and the Ribble. In fact Terry led the first hair-raising cruise into Preston Dock from Tarleton as the start of the campaign by the NorthWest Region to build the Ribble Link.
Other fun trips to remember include MERSEYMAGIC when the Region took over the “Royal Iris” and entertained the newly appointed BW Chairman Sir Leslie Young and his wife. The previous chair, Sir Frank Price (our Patron) used to call Terry, Harold Stanley and I, the three b****ds off the Bridgewater”
Terry will be missed – they don’t make them like that anymore!

We are sorry to hear the sad news of Terry Tomlinson’s death. Please pass on our condolences to his family.
We first met Terry at the Skipper’s meeting at Tarleton when we went on the Ribble Link Cruise in 1995. We had no idea what we had let ourselves in for, but knew we were in safe hands. It was a rough ride but a memorable occasion .

You are quite correct in your description, a real National Stalwart in every sense, both on and off the water. His efforts as QM in my early days with the NEC are vivid memories for me. He was truly devoted to his role in AWCC, and his colourful nature brought some ‘magic’ to our NEC meetings, something we seem to lack today.
Please pass on my condolences to Terry’s family, and I will certainly add some words to my intro at the AGM.

AWCC National President
May I fully endorse everything John says.
Only last year a message came to me via SIBC members who had been besotted by his wit and candid comments. I, of course rang him in return and nothing about him had changed. What a guy!

Please pass my condolences to the family. He will be missed

Great sadness on hearing of the death of Terry Tomlinson, a North West Pioneer and Waterways Stalwart.
Many messages from AWCC North West and Nationally from friends remembering happy times in Terry’s company, and the work Terry did, in particular his work on the Ribble Link and Preston docks. Friends who will remember Terry with a smile, a great charactor, who will be sadly missed. I am sure we will all think of Terry when we use the Link, or moor in Preston Docks.
