The Saltisford Canal Arm is a peaceful green space in the heart of Warwick, just below the famous Hatton lock flight on the Grand Union Canal. The site is managed by the Saltisford Canal Trust, a registered charity that works to restore, preserve and promote this historic waterway, its heritage and its use by narrowboats, visitors and the local community. Saltisford offers safe harbour for visiting boats along with gardens, orchards and waterside spaces to relax and enjoy. It is home to historic boats, wildlife and surroundings that provide a quiet refuge close to the town centre.
We know that 2025 was a complex and expensive year for the Canal and Rivers Trust and the restoration and repair of parts of the network will take many months and potentially years to complete. The coming season's cruising will be one of circumspect planning for both boaters and businesses alike. Being a small canal arm does not exempt us from the ravages of time and climate, and the Trust has begun planning essential repairs. In 2025, Saltisford celebrated it's 40th anniversary and our curret mission, as custodians of the Arm, is to ensure that Saltisford is ready for the next forty years. Consequently, major works are planned or are already underway. These include the complete replacement of our long term moorer's pontoon, extensive tree management across the site, a rolling prgramme of electrical infrastructure updates and the re piling of our visitor moorings. As a relatively small trust, these extensive works create immense pressure on our financial reserves - large costs on top of our regular maintenance budget. Our board of trustees is now tasked with ensuring that these reserves are restored and that Saltisford remains the perfect destination for visitors on foot or by boat.
As part of your visit to Warwick, come and explore the Saltisford Canal Centre and enjoy a welcoming corner of local history, nature and community life.
