Club Profile
Founded in 1951, the club is located just above Swarkestone Lock at the junction of the Trent and Mersey and a short connecting arm of the Derby Canal, the rest of which was abandoned in 1961. However the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Society is active in pursuing restoration, although this will not connect to the club’s site. There are moorings for 23 boats, some in the arm of the Derby Canal and some on the main line. The moorings and the toll house (used as the club house) are leased from the C&RT and maintained by club members. One boat is occupied by resident moorers who provide an on-site security presence and undertake some maintenance tasks. Members carry out regular Work Parties to maintain and improve the site. A number of social events (such as a members’ day and bonfire party) are held and there is a small licenced bar in the club house. There is a Committee of 7 members which runs the club on a day-to-day basis.
